Titus 2:3-5 (KJV)
Mother's Day Sermon, Sunday, May 11, 2025
Pastor Derk Adams
"The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things; That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed."
Introduction
Today is Mother’s Day, a time to honor and celebrate the women in our lives who have shaped us with their love, sacrifice, and godly influence. While flowers, cards, and kind words are wonderful gestures, the Word of God offers the highest honor—it gives divine purpose to womanhood.
In Titus 2:3–5, Paul provides guidance to Titus on how the older women in the church should live and instruct the younger women. This passage isn't just about motherhood—it’s about the sacred influence of a godly woman.
Let’s examine three key points in this text:
I. The Character of a Godly Woman (Verse 3)
Paul begins by addressing older women, spiritually mature women. He lays out how they are to carry themselves:
- “Behaviour as becometh holiness” – Living a life of reverence and integrity.
- “Not false accusers” – Using words to build up, not tear down.
- “Not given to much wine” – Exercising self-control.
- “Teachers of good things” – Teaching by example and instruction.
Application: The life of a godly woman preaches a sermon every day. Her walk should match her talk.
II. Calling to Teach the Next Generation (Verse 4)
- “Teach the young women to be sober” – Demonstrating spiritual maturity and emotional steadiness.
- “To love their husbands and children” – Modeling sacrificial, biblical love.
Application: Older women, your wisdom matters. Younger women, your openness to learn matters. God calls us to connect across generations.
III. The Conduct of a Godly Woman (Verse 5)
- “Discreet” – Exercising wisdom and self-restraint.
- “Chaste” – Maintaining purity in thought, word, and deed.
- “Keepers at home” – Prioritizing the home as a sanctuary.
- “Good” – Living with kindness and gentleness.
- “Obedient to their husbands” – Submitting with respect as unto the Lord.
- “That the word of God be not blasphemed” – Living in a way that upholds the gospel.
Application: A godly woman’s life reflects God’s Word.
Conclusion
On this Mother’s Day, we celebrate not only the biological role of mothers but the spiritual calling of godly womanhood.
God is calling for Titus 2 women—those who walk in holiness, teach by example, and raise the next generation in faith.
To every woman here today: your life, love, and faith matter more than you know.

If today you feel the call to step deeper into your godly role, remember—God gives grace. Whether you're a young woman needing guidance or an older woman ready to lead, God will equip you. Will you surrender your womanhood, your motherhood, and your influence on God today?
