Pastor Derk Adams
Today, Pastor Adams took a moment to step away from our Galatians study series. He chose to address a vital topic that is crucial to everyone's spiritual foundation. Along with Salvation, a believer must be baptized in the Name of Jesus through water submergence. This is the example set by Jesus Himself when He was baptized by John the Baptist in obedience to the Heavenly Father.
But there's more. To truly follow Jesus Christ and experience the power of the Spirit of the Living God, you must also be baptized in fire. This means being filled with the Holy Ghost, as demonstrated in the book of Acts. It is crucial, necessary, and non-negotiable. For the Father to dwell within you as a Temple, He does so through the indwelling of His Spirit within your being.
Pastor Adams' Bible Study Notes
INTRODUCTORY TEXT:
John 14:26 (KJV)
“But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.”
I. Introduction: Why We Must Teach on the Holy Ghost Today
We are living in a time filled with spiritual confusion, moral compromise, and global unrest. The church faces many challenges, and many believers find themselves powerless, prayerless, and purposeless. Now, more than ever, it is essential for believers to understand, receive, and walk in the power of the Holy Ghost.
The Holy Ghost is not just a “thing,” an “it,” or a “force.” He is the third person of the Godhead, sent by the Father and the Son to empower, guide, convict, and comfort believers. His presence is not optional; it is essential.
II. Who Is the Holy Ghost?
John 16:13 (KJV)
“Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth…”
The Holy Ghost is:
A teacher
A guide
A comforter
The Spirit of truth
In today’s world, filled with deception and lies, we need the Spirit of Truth more than ever.
III. Why the Holy Ghost Is Essential Today
1. He Empowers the Believer
Acts 1:8 (KJV)
“But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you…”
We cannot live holy lives, witness boldly, or pray effectively without the power of the Holy Ghost. This power helps us resist sin, gives us boldness to stand for truth, and enables us to fulfill God’s calling.
2. He Guides Us into Truth
John 16:13 (KJV)
“…he will guide you into all truth…”
With false doctrines, new age teachings, and cultural compromise seeping into the church, we need the discernment that comes from the Holy Ghost. The Spirit helps us detect spiritual deception, understand scripture rightly, and stay rooted in sound doctrine.
3. He Convicts the World of Sin
John 16:8 (KJV)
“And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment…”
The Holy Ghost is not only a comforter but also a convictor. He brings sinners to repentance and keeps saints walking upright.
4. He Helps Us Pray Effectively
Romans 8:26 (KJV)
“…the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.”
When we don't know what to pray, the Holy Ghost intercedes on our behalf. Spirit-led prayer aligns with God's will, breaks strongholds, and strengthens the inner man.
5. He Produces Fruit in Us
Galatians 5:22-23 (KJV)
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance…”
The evidence of the Holy Ghost is not just power; it’s character.
IV. Application: The Holy Ghost and Today’s Believer
In today’s climate of:
Spiritual Compromise: The Holy Ghost helps us remain holy and separated.
Emotional Instability: The Holy Ghost brings peace and assurance.
Social Confusion: The Holy Ghost gives us discernment and truth.
Weak Worship and Powerless Churches: The Holy Ghost revives us with fire and genuine worship.
V. Final Encouragement and Plea
Don’t live another day without a fresh encounter with the Holy Ghost.
Ephesians 5:18 (KJV)
“And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;”
Let God fill you again. Let Him lead, teach, correct, and empower you. Without the Holy Ghost, we are vulnerable, weak, and deceived. But with Him, we are bold, holy, wise, and victorious.
