The Enemy's Last Attempt: Divide and Conquer, But God's People Will Prevail

Sunday Sermon Notes

Pastor Derk Adams

Opening Scripture:

Matthew 12:25 (KJV)

"And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand."

Introduction and Background:

Jesus spoke these words during a confrontation with the Pharisees, who accused Him of casting out devils by the power of Satan. In His response, Jesus revealed a profound spiritual principle: division destroys. This principle applies to kingdoms, cities, families—and yes, even the Church. In these last days, Satan is making his final attempt to destroy the body of Christ by sowing seeds of offense, pride, racial tension, denominationalism, and spiritual apathy. The strategy is ancient but effective—divide and conquer. But God’s Word is sure: the gates of hell shall not prevail against His Church. This message is a clarion call to stay alert, stay united, and stay faithful, for God’s people shall overcome.

Sermon Outline with Notes and KJV Scriptures:

I. Division Is a Demonic Strategy

·      2 Corinthians 2:11 (KJV) – "Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices."

·      James 3:16 (KJV) – "For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work."

·      - The enemy studies and strategies. His goal is not to destroy buildings, but to divide believers.

·      - Confusion, offense, gossip, and spiritual pride are tools he uses to sow discord.

II. A Divided Church Is a Powerless Church

·      Mark 3:25 (KJV) – "And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand."

·      1 Corinthians 1:10 (KJV) – "...that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment."

·      - The Holy Ghost will not flow freely in a fractured fellowship.

·      - The power of Pentecost fell when they were "with one accord in one place."

III. Unity Is Our Weapon of Victory

·      Psalm 133:1 (KJV) – "Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!"

·      Ephesians 4:3 (KJV) – "Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace."

·      - Unity is not a feeling; it's a fight. We must fight to stay connected.

·      - When we stand together, we stand against every device of the devil.

IV. The Church Must Be Watchful in This Hour

·      1 Peter 5:8 (KJV) – "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour."

·      Matthew 24:12 (KJV) – "And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold."

·      - Satan seeks to wear out the saints through distraction and division.

·      - A distracted church is an ineffective church. We must stay prayerful and alert.

V. God’s People Shall Prevail

·      Matthew 16:18 (KJV) – "...upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it."

·      Romans 8:37 (KJV) – "Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us."

·      - Though the enemy attacks, we have the promise of victory.

·      - The Church will not fold; it will rise in power and purity.

A Plea to the Faithful:

Church don’t let offense take root. Don’t let division drive you away from the body. The devil is threatened by unity, because a united Church is an unstoppable force. Let’s fight for one another. Let us love one another. Let us walk in unity so that the power of God can rest upon us.

Colossians 3:14 (KJV) – "And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness."

Pray this Prayer:

Father, we come against every spirit of division and discord. Bind us together in love and truth. Let unity return to the Church. Let pride be broken and healing flow. Help us to stand together as a light in this dark world. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
