It Still Takes the Word to Save Me

Sunday Sermon Notes

June 1, 2025

Pastor Derk Adams

James 1:21 (KJV)

“Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.”

Introduction:

In a world filled with trends, opinions, and philosophies—let me remind you today: it still takes the Word to save! Not emotion. Not entertainment. Not tradition. Not even good intentions. It’s the unchanging, Holy Ghost-breathed, sin-cutting, soul-saving Word of God that still has power!

You can’t outgrow it. You can’t replace it. You can’t water it down. The Word still works!

I. The Word Reveals My Condition

Hebrews 4:12 (KJV)

“For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword... and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”

The Word doesn’t sugarcoat. It exposes sin, it challenges motives, it confronts flesh—because it’s alive! Before the Word can heal, it has to cut. Before it builds you, it must break you.You can shout in the sanctuary and still be sick in the soul—until the Word gets in!

II. The Word Cleanses and Sanctifies

John 17:17 (KJV)

“Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.”

You can’t live holy without the Word. You can’t walk upright without the Word.We don’t just need the Word on Sundays—we need it daily to wash our minds, our mouths, and our motives.

Psalm 119:11 (KJV)“Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.”

When the Word is in you, you start saying no to sin and yes to God.

III. The Word Has the Power to Save

Romans 10:17 (KJV)

“So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”

Salvation doesn’t come by feelings—it comes by faith in the Word!- The Word tells me I’m lost.- The Word shows me the cross.- The Word leads me to repentance.- The Word brings me to the water and the blood!

You can’t be saved without the Word. It’s the Word that calls. It’s the Word that draws. It’s the Word that transforms!

IV. The Word Works When You Obey It

James 1:22 (KJV)

“But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.”

Hearing the Word is not enough. You’ve got to respond! You’ve got to repent when it convicts. You’ve got to move when it calls. You’ve got to change when it corrects! You don’t need a new word—you need to obey the one God already gave you!

V. The Word is Still the Final Authority

Isaiah 40:8 (KJV)

“The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.”

Trends fade. Culture shifts. Even churches change. But the Word of God is eternal! It’s the Word that will judge us, justify us, and keep us.

John 12:48 (KJV)

“He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken...”

Don’t ignore what God spoke—your soul depends on it!

Challenge:

Saints, we don’t just need good music, good preaching, or good fellowship. We need the Word that convicts, cleanses, and saves!

Acts 2:41 (KJV)

“Then they that gladly received his word were baptized...”

It still takes the Word to:- Save the sinner- Keep the saint- Heal the broken- Raise the dead- Cast out devils- Bring revivalIt still takes the Word to save me!

Say this Prayer:

"Lord,We thank You for the Word that never changes. Forgive us for every time we’ve treated it lightly or neglected its power. Plant it deep in our hearts. Let it transform our minds. Let it govern our decisions. Let it pierce, cleanse, and correct. We declare today: We will live by the Word. We will respond to the Word. And we will be saved by the Word!In Jesus’ mighty name, amen!"
