Breaking The Back of the Generational Devil:

The Cycle Stops With Me!

Opening Text – Exodus 20:5–6 (KJV)

(5) Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the

Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon

the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;

(6) And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my

commandments.

Introduction

Some of us aren’t just fighting what’s around us — we’re fighting what’s

been in our family for generations. It’s the same spirit that caused your

father to walk away, your mother to break down, your children to drift, your

joy to collapse. It’s the generational devil that wants to repeat cycles — of

addiction, anger, poverty, fear, and brokenness.

But I came to declare this morning — THE CYCLE BREAKS TODAY!

The curse may have run through your family, but it stops at you. You’ve got

the bloodline of Jesus now — and the enemy can’t cross that line!

You’re not cursed — you’re called. You’re not doomed — you’re delivered.

And this morning, the back of that generational devil is about to break in the

name of Jesus!

Background on the Text

In Exodus 20, God gave Moses the Ten Commandments and warned Israel

about idolatry — not because He was insecure, but because He understood

what you worship will rule you, and what rules you will reach your children.

Generational strongholds begin when sin is never confronted. What one

generation excuses, the next embraces. Israel was bound by idols, and God

said, “If you keep bowing to it, it’ll reach your children.” But in verse 6, He reveals mercy — ‘I show mercy unto thousands that love Me.’

That means what was passed down can be reversed. You may have inherited

some battles — but you also inherited a promise! When you stand in

righteousness, mercy overrides the curse. The same God who visited

judgment to the third and fourth generation can send blessing to a thousand

generations!

This morning, God says: “I’m not just breaking the curse — I’m rewriting

the story.”

Galatians 3:13–14 KJV

(13) Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of

the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one

that hangeth on a tree:

(14) That the blessing of Abraham might come on

the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the

Spirit through faith.

Isaiah 10:27 KJV And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden

shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck,

and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing.

Key Points

1) You Can’t Break What You Keep Bowing To.

Joshua 24:15 KJV

And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose

you this day whom ye will serve; but as for me and my house, we will serve

the Lord.

Deliverance begins with decision. You can’t break what you still entertain.

Joshua said, “Choose ye this day.” Every generational curse is fueled by

generational choices. When you choose holiness, you choke hell’s influence!

You’ve got to stand up and declare, “It ran in my family until it ran into

me!”

2) The Bloodline Has Been Redrawn.

2 Corinthians 5:17 KJV

Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new

creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

When you got saved, your last name changed in the Spirit! You’re no longer

tied to the generational curse — you’re tied to the covenant. The devil says,

“You’ll always struggle like your daddy,” but Jesus says, “You’re born

again into My Father’s house!” The blood of Jesus cancels every demonic

inheritance and writes your name into the lineage of grace!

3) God Is Reversing the Pattern.

Joel 2:25 KJV

And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath

eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpiller, and the palmerworm, my great

army which I sent among you.

What the enemy used to destroy generations, God will now use to

demonstrate His glory! You may be the first in your family to break free, but

you won’t be the last. God is turning the generational pain into generational

purpose. You’re not just being delivered — you’re delivering your children,

your grandchildren, and everyone connected to you!

4) The Anointing Breaks What the Flesh Can’t.

Luke 4:18 KJV

The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath

anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the

brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of

sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised.

You can’t counsel out a curse — it must be broken by the anointing! The

anointing doesn’t negotiate with demons — it evicts them! When the Holy

Ghost shows up, every generational spirit has to pack up and leave. The

same Spirit that broke the yoke off your parents’ mistakes is breaking it off

your life right now!

Closing Plea

The Curse Ends Here

God is saying, “It’s time to stop surviving under what I called you to

conquer.” You are the generation that will end what others endure. Your

family will no longer live under the weight of what’s been passed down. The

curse stops here — the blessing begins now!

Come to this altar and declare, “It ends with me!” The back of that

generational devil is breaking under the weight of your worship! Lift your

hands and declare — “My bloodline belongs to Jesus!”

Closing Scripture

Deuteronomy 7:9 (KJV)

(9) “Know therefore that the LORD thy God, he is God, the faithful God,

which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his

commandments to a thousand generations.

Your family may have been broken, but God is restoring your bloodline.

This is the day that the back of the generational devil breaks! Freedom is in

the room, and blessing is being released through your obedience. Shout it

loud — THE CURSE IS BROKEN, AND THE BLESSING BEGINS WITH
